** The Standard Tri is the primary SELECTION RACE for NZ Age Groupers wishing to compete in the Standard Distance event at the 2015 ITU Grand Final in Chicago, USA. To be eligible for selection you must complete the selection nomination form by midnight 28 March 2015. Go here for selection information and the selection nomination form.
The 1.5km swim will take place between Queens and Cooks Wharf; starting with a deep water start. Participants will swim a one-lap clockwise course around the buoys. Competitors will exit the water via a wide ramp.
The 40km bike course is a three lap course in clockwise direction around Auckland's CBD and waterfront. From transition turn left on to Quay St and turn around just before Kelly Tarlton's, then return back along Tamaki Drive and Quay St, turning left up Queen St, left into Wakefield St, right into Mayoral Dr, then back down Queen St to Quay St, where you begin your next lap. After completion of your third lap, turn left into transition to complete your bike leg. The Penalty box is located on the corner of Queen St and Quay St on the bike return into transition. .
The 10km run course is two laps of a 5km run. Turn right out of transition onto Quay St following course directions around Lower Hobson St, Customs St West then into Viaduct Harbour Ave. At the Sofitel Hotel the course winds through Halsey St and the restaurant area and back to Viaduct Harbour Ave. Running through the Viaduct Basin until you reach the entrance to Quay Street, and make your way back around Princes Wharf and back out on to Quay St. Turnaround for second lap is on Quay St just before entrance to Queens Wharf. On the final lap, turn left onto Queens Wharf and down the finish chute.
Rally up your friends, family or workmates and take it on as a team. Teams consist of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner, with each person doing a discipline before handing over to the next team member. This means you only have to tackle one of the three legs!
Teams can consist of three or two athletes (if one team member is keen to do two legs). Teams can be male, female or mixed teams.
- Team Member 1 will complete the 1.5km swim before passing their timing transponder to Team Member 2 in transition
- Team Member 2 will complete the 40km bike before passing their timing transponder to Team Member 3 in transition
- Team Member 3 will complete the 10km run before crossing the finish line on Queens Wharf
* Note - if your team consists of only 2 members the timing transponder is to be worn by whomever is completing each discipline (eg: if team member 1 is doing the swim and the bike, they keep the transponder on until handing over to the runner; if team member 2 is doing the bike and the run they receive the transponder from the swimmer and keep it on until the end. In simple terms, the transponder is to complete each leg of the race no matter which team member is doing which leg!)
